January jobless rates up over the year in 252 of 387 metro areas; payroll jobs up in 9

Jobless rates were higher in January than a year earlier in 252 of the 387 metropolitan areas, lower in 101, and unchanged in 34. Nonfarm payroll employment increased over the year in 9 areas, decreased in 6, and was essentially unchanged in 372.
