Employer premiums for medical care plans in State and local government

Employer premiums in state and local government averaged $394.48 per month for single coverage medical plans, and $783.59 per month for family coverage in September 2007.
Employer characteristics played a role in the amount of employer premiums. For single coverage medical plans, employer premiums for workers in junior colleges, colleges, and universities were $365.71 on average per month, compared with $410.66 in elementary and secondary schools. Premiums for hospital workers averaged $363.22 per month.
For family coverage medical plans, employer premiums were nearly the same--about $747--for workers in junior colleges, colleges, and universities and for workers in elementary and secondary schools. Employer premiums for family coverage medical plans for workers in hospitals were $797.07.
